CamelBak Eddy+ Review: The Bite Valve Bottle for People Who Forget to Drink
The CamelBak Eddy+ judged against screw-top and wide-mouth bottles. Here's what a bite valve changes about how much you drink, and what cleaning costs.

CamelBak Eddy+ Review: One-Handed Hydration
The Bottom Line
Buy it if you drink more water when it's easy to drink. The Eddy+ replaces a screw cap with a flip-up straw and a bite valve โ you don't tilt it, unscrew anything, or take your eyes off what you're doing. That single design decision is why people who own one drink noticeably more water than people who own a screw-top bottle.
Who should buy this: Desk workers who forget to hydrate. Cyclists and gym users who need one-handed drinking. Parents buying a bottle a child won't spill.
Who should NOT buy this: Anyone who wants hot drinks โ the straw and valve rule that out. People who hate cleaning fiddly components. Anyone who needs a wide mouth for ice, powders or filter compatibility.
How We Assessed It
Our assessment weighs the Eddy+ against plain screw-top bottles and wide-mouth designs, on the thing that actually decides a water bottle: friction. A bottle you can drink from one-handed without looking away gets used more often than one you have to unscrew and tilt, and that behavioural difference matters more than capacity. We also examined how it behaves shut in a bag next to a laptop, what a straw-and-valve assembly demands in cleaning, and the failure everyone eventually reports โ mould in a neglected straw.
The Good
It changes behaviour, which is the only thing that matters. A bottle you can sip from without stopping typing or looking away gets sipped from. People drink more from these not because the bottle holds more, but because the friction of taking a sip drops to nearly zero โ which is the only mechanism by which any hydration product works.
Genuinely one-handed on the move. Flip the spout, bite, drink, flip it shut. On a bike that's the difference between drinking and not, and it beats a screw cap or a sports cap you have to pull with your teeth.
It doesn't leak when shut. With the spout flipped down the seal is genuinely reliable in a bag next to a laptop. That's the pass/fail test for a bottle you carry, and it is the one cheap straw bottles routinely fail.
Spill-resistant for kids and clumsy desks. Knock it over with the spout open and it dribbles rather than empties, because the bite valve only opens under pressure. Anyone who has poured a full bottle into a keyboard will appreciate this.
The Bad
Cleaning is a genuine chore. There's a straw, a valve and a lid mechanism, and they all need attention. You need a straw brush, and you need to actually use it โ this is not a rinse-and-go bottle.
Neglect it and it goes mouldy. The failure mode of every straw bottle. Leave anything but water in it, or leave it damp and closed for a few days, and you'll find something growing in the straw. This is a real ongoing commitment.
Water only, realistically. Squash, sports drinks and anything with sugar dramatically accelerate the cleaning problem. Technically you can; practically you shouldn't.
The valve is a consumable. Bite valves perish and eventually leak or split. Replacements are available, but it's a part you'll be buying.
Who It's Really For
Someone who has decided that drinking more water is a habit worth engineering rather than remembering. The Eddy+ works by removing every small obstacle between you and a sip, and it works well. Just go in knowing you're accepting a cleaning routine as the price โ a plain screw-top bottle asks nothing of you and this one does.
Final Verdict
Price-Per-Value Rating: 8.3/10
A bottle that removes every small obstacle between you and a sip, and stays sealed in a bag when it's shut. The bite valve is excellent engineering for one-handed use, and the cleaning burden is the honest, unavoidable cost of it. Buy it for the habit change, and buy a straw brush at the same time.
